Double Drifting / Toccoa Tail waterts
Posted On 04/01/2008 20:04:32
GeorgiaFlyGuide on the Toccoa Tailwaters, we drift this river year-round and you never know what size Trout you'll end up hooking! The River is at its best when the Dam is releasing cold water from BlueRidge Lake, this churns the bottom making bait fish and smaller trout more abundent for the bigger Trout. The River winds its way down through some very scenic back drops which gives this river its beauty. We've been guiding on the Toccoa River for twenty years and the Brown Trout population has become a successful as well as the Rainbow which gives the river great balance!

Upper Toccoa River DH
Posted On 03/07/2008 19:14:54
We visited the upper Toccoa River DH which has alot of nice fish, we got to the river around 8pm. Sunday morning, the river was up alittle because of all the rain we've been recieving but the fishing was fantastic! The morning was very cold with the air temp being right at 38 degrees and the water right at 42 degrees which made the guides ice up...... after the sun come up over the tree's it warmed up to 65 degrees for the day time temp. I tied on a Mr.Copper and my buddy tied on a Olive Wooly Bugger and we split up fishing both sides of the river hooking nice colored up Rainbows which were in spawning colors..... we landed 4 Bows that were in the 2lb. class and averaged 16 inches plus alot of 13 inchers that gave us some good jumps out of the water tail dancing! After lunch we searched another spot up river but could turn over anymore trout........ we did have a Black Caddis fly and a Black Stone fly come off but they were a sparce hatch which lasted a good 2 hrs. but not a whole lot of Trout raising. Ken and I finished up with 4 nice Rainbows in the 16 inch range and several others giving us a total of 13 for the day. This river has Brookies, Browns and Rainbows and the DH season lasts into June........ this is one of Georgia's better DH Streams in the State! I couldn't load all the photo's because of their sizes so I put them on  www.flyfishblogger.com

Metallic streamers
Posted On 02/10/2008 16:31:18

We've been working on several metallic streamers, most streamers with marabou would shrink when water tounched the material thats why we tried several materials. We started using metallic fibers for the tail of Mr.Copper which we blended Electric copper and Gold for the tail, next came the Copper Tri -lobal Hackle which replaced regular hackle that would give the color and movement that was needed. We were looking for a streamer that was flexable, colorful, durable which would catch a Trouts attention. It took two years of developing and field testing to get the streamer to the stores for sale. For the weighting of the streamer we went with heavy red copper wire ( 030 ) and a large copper bead with a large copper cone head. By using this type of weight we got great tail movement plus it sank very quickly. The next test was field testing in Georgia,NC,Tenn,Kentucky and Montana, after two years of testing  Mr.Copper had became a success for our team. Built and designed by Steve Lamb of Georgiaflyguide based out of Georgia. For any questions about the streamer please ask! Some photo's can be found at www.georgiaflyguide.com or www.flyfishblogger.com  I'm working on a video on tying this streamer.......

Georgia's Toccoa River
Posted On 02/07/2008 18:03:53
Hello fellow Flyfishers, just a few lines about the Lambster........ I've been Fly fishing for 20 yrs. plus and been guiding folks for 30yrs. We have some real nice fishing here in Georgia, the Toccoa River is our home waters and has some pretty good sized Browns and Bows in its waters plus the upper section has Brookies! For the year 2007 we've landed (8 ) trout 20 inch plus, these large Trout are caught when the Dam is releasing water or after they shut it down. The river is productive year-round but you have to work hard and be lucky or holding your mouth just right! We have three guides that work as a great team and all of them have known me for a good many a year....... this river has a hard gravel and tough limestone that loves to chew on Drift Boats hulls........ any questions please ask away. Godbless and tight lines!
