Mary is the owner of Angler's Passport which has been in operation since 1999. Prior to starting Angler's Passport, Mary traveled on her own trading professional photography for fishing, room and board in such places as The Great Barrier Reef filming 16mm motion pictures on fly fishing for black marlin on a liveaboard boat, the Kola Peninsula in Russia fishing for Atlantic salmon on the Umba River prior to the collapse of the Soviet Union, Alaska's Alagnak River fishing for all five species of Pacific Salmon, British Columbia, Canada fishing for trout, salmon and halibut and the Baja peninsula fly fishing for sailfish, striped marlin and dorado.

Mary Smiley has been fly fishing for over 26 years and has traveled the world in search of bonefish, tarpon, sailfish, dorado, marlin, trout, Atlantic salmon, Pacific salmon and has a great passion for fishing in New Zealand. As the only registered Kiwi Specialist in the state of Montana, Mary spends a good deal of time in New Zealand as it is one of her main specialty areas.

howdy ladyfish,

thx for the comments...i caught the fish on the situk river out of yakutat...well known and very crowded river in s.e. alaska.  has a good run of steelhead from mid april thru may....got a 40" winter fish there a few years back...loved your slide show on new zealand...brought back some great memories!

It's been tough when it gets nice and stops snowing the rivers blow out pretty fast then it snows for a few more days so you have to fish the transition

Love your photo slide show. You've definitely got a photographer's eye and skill.
GREAT looking areas. Of all the places left in this world, I would one day hope to see New Zealand and Australia. What's Lupin? Don't have a clue.
