Rusty's Fly Tying Adventure
Posted On 02/10/2008 13:14:05 by barraadventures
Hello all,
I just started my adventure last Tuesday with a beginning fly tying class at Bentleys Outfitters in Bloomington Minnesota.
I took the plunge before the class and bought a vice (Renzetti Traveller) and some materials to tye the first fly in class (wooley Bugger) the week before my class started.
I like to dive into new things and give things a go before instruction, I like to call it pre-work.
My first Wooly Bugger looked well wooly but not in the correct manner but when I got to class the following week it helped along with all the web education I did before class.
I am currently tying two Beginner approved flies out of the Winter Fly Tyer magazine for 2007. CDC Emerger and Elk Hair Emerger on page 48 and 49.
I will include pictures in the next week with the feedback I receive from my instructor Andy Roth.
The adventure just began and already I am having way too much fun along with day dreams of fishing on that remote silent trout stream some where deep in my mind.
Thanks for reading and cheers,
Rusty Lane

Great to hear that you are enjoying fly tying. I haven't tackled it myself yet. Looking forward to seeing your pix as you go. Maybe you can share some tips with other beginners. Thanks for joining the community! - Clayton Morris
